Compulsory Por Ror Bor Insurance
What compulsory motorcycle insurance in Thailand covers and which losses remain the renter’s responsibility.
Every HL Rent motorcycle carries Thailand’s compulsory government insurance, พ.ร.บ. — Por Ror Bor, also known as Compulsory Motor Insurance.
What Por Ror Bor covers
After a road accident, the policy provides compensation for medical treatment, disability or death involving the rider, passenger and other injured people.
If the rider is at fault
- the rider’s medical expenses — up to 30,000 ฿;
- death of the rider — 35,000 ฿;
- injury followed by death — preliminary compensation of up to 65,000 ฿ in total.
If the rider is not at fault
- medical expenses — up to 80,000 ฿;
- permanent disability or loss of organs — 200,000–500,000 ฿;
- death or total permanent disability — up to 500,000 ฿;
- in-patient compensation — 200 ฿ per day for up to 20 days.
Passengers and other injured people
- medical expenses — up to 80,000 ฿;
- permanent disability — up to 500,000 ฿;
- death — up to 500,000 ฿.
What the insurance does not cover
Por Ror Bor is not damage insurance for the motorcycle and does not compensate material loss. It does not cover:
- repairs to the rented motorcycle after an accident or fall;
- scratches, broken panels, lights or other parts;
- damage to another vehicle or other property;
- theft or loss of the rented motorcycle.
Damage to the rented vehicle is paid by the renter under the rental agreement. Having Por Ror Bor does not remove this responsibility.
